Gardener of the Year 2016

We are delighted to hear the recent announcement of the Gardening Australia Gardener of the Year Awards for 2016, made recently at Floriade.

One of our members, Shirley Johnson, travelled to Canberra as the winner of the Community Garden category for her guerilla gardening work in her North Fitzroy neighbourhood.  Shirley won the Golden Spade Award and was announced as the Gardener of the Year 2016.  Congratulations Shirley from everyone at Friends of Geelong Botanic Gardens and we look forward to hearing first hand about your work.

We also look forward to hearing more about 'the prize' - a trip for two to the Chelsea Flower Show 2017!  We are sure that Shirley and David will have many stories to tell us about their trip.  David is one of our Volunteer Guides at the Geelong Botanic Gardens and many visitors to our Gardens have enjoyed his time at the Discovery Table and on the Guided Walks - we will enjoy hearing more.

Congratulations again, for this recognition of the magnificent community work.

More information about this exciting award is available on the Gardening Australia website

We will have more information about Shirley's Community Garden project soon
